In winter, it is cold in the country, and even more so in the unheated rooms that we completed in the summer. Therefore, today we are studying how to insulate the veranda in the country, so that in winter it would be nice to spend time talking and having a family dinner.
Warming of the veranda in the country can be carried out at any time of the year, as there are several ways of insulation. Naturally, if you want to insulate the building from the outside, it is advisable to do it in the warm period, as it will be easier to work, and some materials require plus temperatures for installation. But if the street is cool or even cold, we offer an alternative method of warming the veranda from the inside.
Insulation of the veranda from the inside
We decided not to hire specialists, since warming the veranda with our own hands will not be so difficult and will help us save money. So, let's get started, because the longer we wait, the colder it gets.
We choose a material for warming the veranda
We offer to work with the frame method of insulation, because this way the design will turn out much stronger and more confident. Moreover, with the help of the frame, we can install absolutely any insulation for the veranda on the walls, and not just polystyrene foam, which can be mounted on special dowels directly to the wall.
So, a wooden or metal frame, insulation (polystyrene foam, expanded polystyrene, mineral wool, other plates and mats for insulation), as well as lining materials, with the help of which the decorative decoration of the veranda will take place.
We warm the walls of the veranda from the inside
We will need the frame on the walls, on the ceiling and on the floor, because it is advisable to insulate all sides from which the cold can follow. We will start, perhaps, from the walls.
We decided to choose a wooden frame, as it is pleasant with the tree, and it’s just convenient to work. Under the insulation - this is exactly what we need.
We propose to make the frame the simplest of wooden beams horizontally stretched across the entire plane of the wall. The step between the lines of the frame should be equal to the width of the selected insulation, and we have it 50-60 cm. We chose a wooden beam for the crate 50x50 mm, since the thickness of the insulation is 50 mm.
We suggest treating the timber with antiseptics and flame retardants before installation. You can learn more about these products by reading the material on wood protection.
We put the first beam on the wall under the very ceiling, you can even in the corner between the wall and the ceiling, if it is even. Next, measure 60 cm from the bottom of the beam (we decided to take mineral wool 60 cm wide) and make a mark. Next, we beat off an even line at the mark and set the next beam so that its upper part passes along the marking line. We continue this way to the floor.
There is one mandatory nuance that must be observed - the installation of the beam in the lower corner of the wall, regardless of the step of the crate. Even if the step is 30 or 40 cm, there is nothing to worry about, the main thing is that the lower edges of the decorative finish have a basis for fastening.
Now, after installing the frame, which, we hope, you did not forget to check the level and plumb, we need to lay a heater between the wooden base. This is mineral wool with a thickness of 50 mm and a width of 60 cm. It is laid very simply - we cut pieces of the required length (wall width) and lay the material between the nearest wooden beams, if necessary, we press the material well.
The simplest thing remains - to install a vapor barrier and make a decorative finish.
A 5-7 mm thick vapor barrier is rolled out over the entire wall and mounted on the same wooden beam using brackets and a mounting stapler. All seams and joints of the vapor barrier are glued with a special adhesive tape, which makes the lining more airtight.
Now we install plastic panels, MDF lining or wooden lath for decoration. It will be very simple to do this, since we have the basis for this enterprise in the form of timber battens on the wall. Accordingly, the installation of decorative material occurs on a special fastener for the material that you have chosen.
Do-it-yourself insulation of the floor on the veranda
Remember how we insulated a country house? Here we will proceed from the same requirements, and do everything exactly the same. To insulate the floor, we need a wooden beam 50x50 mm, polystyrene foam 50 mm thick and an OSB sheet with a thickness of, say, 10 mm.
Initially, we lay on the floor the logs treated with protective compounds from the timber and fasten them to the screed on the dowels. The step we need is 50 cm.
Next, we lay the polystyrene foam between the lags and cover everything with OSB sheets. The sheet is fastened with a step of 25-30 cm along the lags and with a step of 15 cm at the joints of the sheets. Between sheets it is necessary to leave a gap of 3-4 mm, and between OSB and walls - 10-12 mm. After laying the floor, carefully seal the joints with sealant and lay the baseboard, having insulated walls and the floor in the veranda in the country.
Insulation of the ceiling of the veranda
When the insulation of the wall and floor of the veranda is over, we go to the ceiling, through which the cold can also enter the room.
Here we decided to install a mounting plate or bar 30x30 mm on the ceiling surface, since we believe that such insulation will be enough for the ceiling, provided, of course, that there is a high-quality roof above. If the roof of the veranda is simply covered, it is advisable to make it a complete seal and to make insulation with a thicker layer of insulation.
We create a frame on the ceiling with a step of 50-60 cm, lay the insulation (mineral wool or polystyrene) and sew it with finishing material. As you can see, everything is simple and very similar to the previously described processes.
With this, we could finish the review on the insulation of the veranda from the inside with our own hands, but we want to dwell on one more point.
Heaters for the veranda in the country
When the insulation of the wooden veranda (or the veranda from other production materials) is over, we would suggest installing a heater inside, which will help to gain the necessary positive temperature and constantly maintain it. We will not particularly develop the topic, but rather we suggest you read about the heaters in the country, which are most suitable for heating a country house and a veranda. We are referring specifically to infrared heaters, which we consider to be the most economical and efficient. But if you have a different opinion, then you can always buy a convector, oil cooler or other device for heating the room.
When the insulation of the veranda with foam and mineral wool is completed, you can begin to equip the room, but do not forget that next spring it is advisable to completely insulate the country house (as well as insulate the veranda outside) so that it no longer comes into contact with the problems of the cold.
Insulation of the veranda outside
It will be possible to warm the veranda outside in the spring, when the frosts leave and give you the opportunity to work calmly with mixtures and solutions. Of course, many people, if they do not have time to warm up during the warm season, warm up not only the veranda, but the whole house, in the winter, but they do not finish it. This happens in the following way - the wall thickness is increased by polystyrene foam, which, of course, acts as a heater. But, since it is no longer possible to work with its finish due to low temperatures, expanded polystyrene is left open until spring. This is not always good, because the warming of the house or the veranda is not completed, but in the winter you can already get a serious change in the temperature inside, since energy saving will be increased.
The installation of expanded polystyrene plates on the external walls is carried out using special fasteners - the so-called mushrooms, on which expanded polystyrene is fixed. If everything is done correctly, then the wall must be treated with protective compounds, then, expanded polystyrene, mesh and decoration are glued or fixed to the fungi. The latter occurs with the help of a very diverse mixture of plasters.
You can always use another technology of insulation, for example, polystyrene foam, vapor barrier and siding, or expanded polystyrene, insulation film and block house. In general, it is not difficult to choose a technology, but here everything depends on the budget.

Warming of a summer terrace is an important process, which is desirable to finish in the summer or early fall, but if you did not have time to warm up, the situation can always be corrected by simply warming the building from the inside.
